Mr. Merkel is the managing partner of Bansley and Kiener and chairman of the firm's Executive Committee. He graduated in 1969 from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting Degree and has been employed at the firm since that date. Mr. Merkel is a certified public accountant (Illinois) and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Illinois C.P.A. society, the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans, the Government Finance Officers Association, the Illinois Government Finance Officers Association and the Chicago Metropolitan Government Finance Officers' Association. He is a member of the Board of Regents of the Mercy Home for Boys and Girls and is a member of its finance committee.
Mr. Merkel has had extensive audit experience concerning employee benefit plans, associations, other tax-exempt organizations and non public companies. He has extensive experience dealing with the Internal Revenue Service concerning corporate and individual income tax matters as well as those issues involving unrelated business income tax.
