Tom Brock was a visionary who spent his life helping his community and his country. Hailed as a man of "unquestionable integrity," Tom built his reputation on his concern for small business, for economic development and for the common man. Tom was beloved by those who knew him, and left behind an enduring legacy-Brock and Company, the firm he founded in 1956.
Tom was born in Casper, Wyoming on October 25th, 1929, also known as "Black Friday" - the day the stock market crashed. Tom earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in public accounting from the University of Denver in 1951 and 1952. After spending three years as a finance officer in the US Army, Tom moved back to Denver and joined the firm of Cordle and Associates in 1956. He bought the Longmont branch of the office that year.
Beginning with only a secretary, Tom grew the firm to 30 people in four offices by the time he passed away in 1998. The company transitioned from only doing tax returns and financial statements to business consulting, estate planning, personal financial planning and retirement plan administration. "He loved high-level consulting, turning small ideas into big ideas."
Over the years, Tom carried the torch for small business. In the halls of Legislature and in Congress, Tom was the benevolent bulldog leading the way in telling the story of Colorado and America's business men and women. He made a lasting impression. As the Longmont Times Call eulogized: "Tom Brock knew, worked with and represented people from throughout the state and nation. For those who knew him best, he will be especially missed. We will be forever grateful he came our way."
