October Compliance Calendar
As an individual or business, it is your responsibility to be aware of and to meet your tax filing/reporting deadlines. This calendar summarizes important tax reporting and filing data for individuals, businesses and other taxpayers for the month of October 2008. Please click here for details.
2008 Year-End Tax Planning
As 2008 comes to an end, many individuals are thinking ahead to the next filing season. There is just a short window of time to engage in effective year-end tax planning. Many tax breaks are up in the air, with their continuation dependent upon legislation, such as whether Congress will make the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts permanent. The possibility of additional economic stimulus measures as well as new tax cuts in 2009 make tax planning for 2008 a bit more complicated. Through traditional tax planning methods and assessment of the ever-changing tax landscape, prudent taxpayers can take advantage of tax benefits and possibly avoid unwelcome consequences. Your Business' Bottom Line
When your business' bottom line is not as healthy as it should be, laying people off eventually may become your only option. However, before you cut people from your business, consider implementing cost-cutting measures for a healthier bottom line and greater peace of mind. Please click here for more information.
Third-Party Reporting
More third-party reporting is coming. Treasury, Congress, and the IRS are all entertaining proposals to require the reporting of income that currently does not have to be reported to the IRS. IRS National Taxpayer Advocate Nina Olson reports that there are 45 million taxpayers who have a small business or are self-employed. She reports that not all of them have professional help, and that the IRS is not adequately helping them. Please click here for more information.
Getting Started to Getting Help: Resources for your Business
If you own a business, you should be aware that there are a diverse number of resources to help you on the road to developing and growing your business. Many are targeted to the small business owner. Much of the help is free or at a low cost for qualifying small business owners. Please click here for more information.
